Xmas past now and back to school soon. I was now 13 years old.
Kenny Everett show on new years eve featured Boomtown rats and david bowie.
the second year continued. I was a record collector now. Soon mum was to buy me the debut album the The Beat, and later she bought me Blondie's first two albums from her catalogue.
I think I dipped into John Peel a bit through 1980 - but more and more as I found stuff I liked that I never heard anywhere else.

Each program is introduced and book-ended by science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke in short sequences filmed in Sri Lanka.
In 1980, Book Club Associates published a hardcover book with the same name, authored by Simon Welfare and John Fairley, where the contents of the show were further explored. It featured an introduction written by Clarke as well as his remarks at the end of each chapter or topic. In 1985, a paperback of this book was released by HarperCollins Publishers.
There was also a magazine which ran for months (years?). Andy W got it but I wasn't into it too much for some reason. Maybe I was only really into the UFOs, though I enjoyed looking at the ghost pictures in the magazine, I only ever thought they were fakes. Still do.
On December 8th Lennon was shot and killed
I only discovered him through my Dad's records. So while I knew who John lennon was I still couldn't have picked out which Beatle he was.On December 8th Lennon was shot and killed
This was the event that turned the Beatles into people and not just a set of images and sounds
Right after his death Radio 1 played this interview in parts, which i taped on my recorder and listened to in the bath on at least one occasion, using battery power. It was the little bathroom that had been my bedroom just a few years before - I was more or less in the same position in the bath as I had been in my bed.
I quickly came to be a Lennon fan. Over the next 5 years I bought most of his albums, plus some Beatles albums such as Sgt Pepper and the Beatles (White Album).
Which also led me to look at George Harrison's works which today I prefer. I've never really seen much value in so-called Paul McCartney's works tbh aside from the odd track by Wings (Denny Lane's band that 'McCartney' joined).
