July 5th – Wednesday - Rome
Google tells me it takes between 3hours 40 and 4 hours 40 to travel by train from Venice to Rome.
We arrived lateish in the day. We found a hotel opposite the station and went for a meal later in the evening. My strongest memory is the terrible diarrhoea from dodgy (uncooked) burger. The dodgy burger I can remember must have been soon after we arrived, and bought from one of the places near the station.

I took these (below) out of the window of our room. It was a very busy and very noisy spot and I felt alive. The place looks substantially cleaned up today and a lot less interesting. Even the tram tracks have gone.
Rome station was quite striking. For me anyway, because of the number of chic shops they had in the station. I'd never seen that before. London stations weren't yet like that - though they are now.

Thursday - Rome
Why my memory of this trip to Roma is incomplete to say the least - I can try to piece it together as best as I can. I'm guessing on the first day we did the wander around.
i asked the lads to pose with a map - see pic below. I had in my head some article or report that I'd put together using this pic at the front. Here I am almost 30 years to the day writing that article. The pointy thing is the 'Obelisco Esquilino' which sits outside the
Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore.

July 8th – Saturday - Travelled from Rome to Pisa. Stayed overnight - but there was very little to do in Pisa. Just the tower is all I remember.
So we went up it. The bits I found alarming were the various floors as you can see below where there was virtually nothing to stop you from falling off the edge. It did scare me somewhat.
