coming out years (abortive) 1997

Thursday 4th September 1997
Dream:
Mark Elkington was in it. I’d not mentioned anything about my grievances to him. I was letting it lie. But I was thinking about them. The other bit I remember is trying to go abroad. I was with someone, a woman. We were trying to go through customs. I think we had to buy a ticket too. But the bit we needed was closed.
Woke up remembering more about the dream than I do now. Wanted to write it down but had no paper. My hands are very weak in the morning, and I have trouble gripping a pen. Why is that? It’s always been the case. Maybe I should write in to Notes and Queries.
Then a noise finally filtered through to my consciousness, it was a radio, loud, and I got up, rushed into the sitting room. The radio was on, and the cats were grooving on down. How annoying. It was Eli who put it on I bet, and he’s very good at turning the volume up too. I turned it off, and went back to bed. Hope the neighbours aren’t upset. Not that I give a shit about the neighbours, if they get upset they may start causing me trouble.
Got up again at 8.00. Fed cats. Weighed myself and I was 13stone4lb. At the weekend I was 13stone2lb. I’m getting thin again. Put Eli in his cage, and released the others. Got dressed and left quickly. Remembered to post Open Learning Centre application. I’m gonna do Env Science A Level.
Bits
·               Sent off for some Freemans clothing.
·               Pondering over OU course and computer.
·               Programme last night called Famous Addresses: about people who lived where famous murders took place. Also saw Space Cadets, and Babylon 5.
·               Started reading Biology text book, which I bought yesterday.
·               Booked to see 3D movie at NFT. I am now a member.
·               Rats are big now, and on dry food. They love grapes, apple and granary bread. Aldous, the hooded one, is dominant. The groom each other, sometimes one lying on his back with his little legs sticking in the air.
·               There’s a bag of vege at Abraxas with my name on it and I’m hoping to collect it tonight. It’s much more salady than before as Barbara has switched me to a new supplier. The food is also more local. The old stuff was getting increasingly root vege based, even through the summer.
·               I’ve made appointment to take Spike to vets about his bum
·               Reading ‘Hogfather’ Pratchett (he was on Space Cadets last night and I never knew he couldn’t pronounce his Rs) and ‘Fabulous Harbours’ Micheal Moorcock Moorcock, Micheal Moorcock you fervently moan.

28th November 1997
Well, I’m back to going into the toilet cubicle to get some kip. I suddenly came over all tired yesterday. There was a Greenpeace Head Office gathering, and I could hardly stay awake, aspecially when they turned the lights off to watch some slides of the North Atlantic oil rig action. And I didn’t get to bed till one this morning, so I’m even worse today. There’s a cycling Critical Mass tonight, and we’re protesting against Esso (owned by Exxon) trying to scupper the Kyoto conference (which starts on Monday). I probably won’t go as I’m just too flagged out.

My bike’s inthe shop being repaired and I can get it back tonight. Yippee, I can ride my bike again.

So how was your trip? What was the “business” or is it private?

I’m all out of cash, and I spent an absurd amount yesterday on clothes, trainers, and pet supplies. I get paid again next week, so I’ll just have to take it easy till then.

I just looked at my copy of Stardust, full of DB related interviews. There’s one with Nick Roeg talking about the making of The Man Who Fell To Earth. It’s interesting, I’ll copy it and stick it in witth your tapes.

I’ve just read this article by a girl from LA, now living in London. I quote, “One thing sticks in my mind about primary school in Los Angeles: smog alerts. The entire class would sit inside during lunchbreaks on a perfectly sunny yet hazy day. Smog levels were up and it was too unhealthyfor us to play. I always knew we were going to have a smog alert because my chest hurt.” Did you have experiences like this? The girl was about your age, I think.
